About the author : HAMEL Louis

    • HAMEL Louis

Louis Hamel (1914-2055) was not only an excellent choral conductor but also a good organist, particularly recognised for his skill in improvisation.

He served a parish in the Alsace vineyards where the Gregorian repertoire was still employed after Vatican II, with due respect and without fundamentalism; one piece of the Gregorian mass would be sung – a communion antiphon, a verse to the Alleluia, an introit or a hymn – and Louis Hamel would perform a carefully prepared introduction or postlude, that he subsequently wrote down.
