      Denis Chevallier studied the piano, harpsichord, harmony, analysis and orchestration in Paris. He was adviced for the composition by P.Hersant, T.Escaich, T.Machuel et N.Bacri. His interest for old and contemporary musics, and his wish to conciliate both, engages and enables him to go on with his teacher’s activity as well as with the player’s and composer’s ones.

      His catalog consists of several a cappella choir works, songs, chamber and orchestral music, written for “ les Cris de paris”, la maitrise de Notre Dame de Paris, Sorbonne university's choir ( dir A.Alonso ), the mezzo-soprano L.Richardot, the organist T.Escaich, the female voice trio “ Viva lux”, the Errell quartet, the ensembles Correspondances, 2e2m, Residencias, Plural, Finem lauda, Soli tutti, Pasdeloup orchestra... He also (re)orchestrated Offenbach’s “Barbe bleue”, for the company “les brigands”, (dir. B.Lévy) , Mussorgsky’s Pictures of an exhibition, for Radio France philarmonic orchestra, Vaughans Williams’ “Songs of travel” for l’Arcal.

      He was in 2006 winner of the international composition award “Frédéric Mompou” in Barcelona. He is composer in residence at the “Casa de Velazquez”, for the years 2007-09. In 2010 he is awarded from the SACD-Beaumarchais for his first opera, premiered in Paris' Theatre du rond point.
