These Without any theological pretention, these variations on the 'Magnificat' are a brute musical echo of sentiments, of ideas and of events as written down in the text.
- Concerning Variation Il, the initial melody resulting from the reversal of the theme's second sentence, is amplified little by little : « Within his little maid-servant, God has done great things. »
- Variation IV is in two parts. These underline the antinomy expressed in the text: « He has unfolded the strength of his arm, crushed the splendid, and raised the little ones. »
- Similarly, for Variation V « He heaped kindness on the poor, brought down the rich people's arrogance to desti¬tution. »
- Variation VI splits-up into three parts « The word of God, greatness, memory. »
- The note held throughout Variation VII symbolizes eternity.
