The 3 movements violin concerto owes it's cohersiveness to it's cyclical form and to motives which return throughout the work. The first movement, "Allegro moderato", begins with an extended orchestral tutti during which many of the principal motives are introduced. Then, the solo violin enters with an improvisatory cadenza before beginning the principal theme of the work.
