    • PINCEMAILLE Pierre

Pierre Pincemaille after having obtained five First Prizes from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de PARIS (Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, Organ-interpretation, and Organ-improvisation) went on to successively win five Organ International Prizes : Lyon (1978), Beauvais (1987), Strasbourg (1989), Montbrison (1989), and Chartres (1990).

In 1987, Pierre Pincemaille, amongst keen competition, was named Titular Organist of the Cathedral of Saint-Denis, near Paris. The Cathedral’s magnificent organ is known world wide as being the first instrument constructed by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, the famous 19th century organ builder.
In parallel, he pursues a career as an international recitalist, mainly in Europe, U.S.A., and Canada. His concerts also took him to Russia, South Africa, Japan, China and South America.
He performed as a soloist with famous conductors : Mstislav Rostropovitch, Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Muti, Charles Dutoit, John Nelson.

An incontestable virtuoso, Pierre Pincemaille displays an additional talent for giving color to each of his recitals: by the magic of his registrations, he is able to fully exploit the many sounds of an organ, leaving his audience to discover new and unsuspected sonorities.
His public is even more fascinated by the masterful improvisations with which he traditionally finishes his concerts. In this art form, Pierre Pincemaille is recognized as having unsurpassable talent.

Pierre Pincemaille teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de PARIS.Besides improvisation CDs, his recordings include the complete works of Duruflé and Franck, and works from Widor (the 10 symphonies), Vierne, Alain and Cochereau. A CD with Pierre Pincemaille’s transcription of Strawinsky’s Firebird and Petrouchka is also available, as well as works for organ and orchestra from Saint-Saëns, Berlioz, Jongen and Copland.

Pierre Pincemaille has recently been honored with the Médaille de Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
