“Wings” was born out of an idea inspired by a fleeting fluttering of wings. It is structured around two themes, the first of which evokes the idea of wings fluttering and proceeds through a number of harmonic and contrapunctal devices. The instruments are free to express a certain virtuosity up to a brief “stretta”, which is followed by a transition into the second theme. This is a form of slower and more expressive chorus, where sequential elements can at times be discerned. Each instrument here takes on its own acoustic face, emerging in turn out of an ambitus of ample intervals, and lending a particular luminosity to the sounds of the piece.
