FERRAN Jean-Michel

Jean-Michel Ferran studied at the Conservatoire National Régional (CNR) in Toulouse, then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. He also read Philosophy at Paris X University. His artistic activity is divided between orchestra conducting, playing the piano, musicological publications and composition. He defines himself as a “maker of musics”, as being an eclectic composer without any aesthetic prejudices.

His work, which is meant to be sensual and coloured in the heritage of the great French masters, tackles all the genres: comprising a wide range of musical pieces for soloists, symphonic orchestra, as well as for chamber music and vocal repertory. His “learned” music is performed by the greatest soloists but also by students in music academies, students for whom he writes numerous pieces as well as educational books.

He also finds some inspiration in dance and cinema. Thus his compositions range from tonal music to a resolutely contemporary expression, including jazz or world music, their influences intermingling so as to create his own music world.
