SIMONIAN Félix

Félix Simonian, born in 1942, cellist, composer and pedagogue, is a symbolic figure in Armenian classical music. Former member of the famous quatuor “Komitas”. Regularly gives solo, chamber music and orchestra performances around the world: the Pleyel and Gaveau Halls in Paris, the Vienna Theatre, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Doge’s Palace in Venice, the Royal Palace of Music à Stockholm, the Colon Hall in Buenos Aires, the Gulbenkian Fondation in Portugal. Trained within the famous Russian School and Armenian School – disciple of Mstislav Rostropovitch, by whom he was profoundly influenced- he upholds these great traditions through his work as an artist and performer.

Considered a master of the cello, especially in Russian and Armenian music, his immense classical, romantic and 20th Century repertoire also bring him to create works by contemporary composers. Over 60 works have been dedicated to him. Félix Simonian began composing several years ago in parallel to his concert tours.

His works have been performed in many Eastern European countries such as Armenia, Russia, Moldavia, Georgia, as well as Greece, Sweden, Spain, Portugal and France.
