VAZART Claire

Claire VAZART was born in Grenoble (France) in 1964. After completing classical studies in the piano and music-writing at the National Academy of Music for the Grenoble region, she passed the Agrégation in musicology (the highest-ranking competitive examination for French teachers) and gained a Master’s Degree in French literature, language and civilization. She then went on to the jazz department in Chambéry (France) and the Humber College in Toronto (Canada) to get further training.

In 2000 she turned to composition when she met the musicians of the Hora Cero quintet in Toulouse (France) who created a number of her works in various concert-halls around the country. Although the Hora Cero quintet has now disbanded, the meeting was a decisive one.

Claire is a teacher, a pianist and conducts a big band; she now composes pedagogical works and songs, as well as more ambitious, contemporary pieces.

She was the prize-winner of the A Coeur Joie competition organised by the French ministry of Culture in 2003 and was awarded the second prize in composition in the 12th International Music Tournament of Rome in 2006.
