AROM Simha

Simha Arom is Director of Research Emeritus at C.N.R.S. An advanced musical training (1st prize of the National Conservatory of Music of Paris) allowed him to approach the problem of African music with a practitioner's eye. During an uninterrupted four-year stay in the UK, he became familiar with the field and was introduced to the methods of linguistic description, aspects of which have largely inspired his own thinking. Among his many publications, the Aka Pygmies Music Anthology has earned him the highest distinction of the International Record Academy Charles-Cros, the "President of the Republic Award". For the quality of his scientific work, he obtained in 1984 the Silver Medal of the C.N.R.S. and, in 2008, the Fyssen Foundation International Prize.
