About author : CHAMOUARD Philippe

Philippe Chamouard was born in Paris (1952). He studied piano with Aline van Barentzen, composition with Roger Boutry (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris) and musicology at the University of Paris-IV.

After working as an editor at Deutsche Grammophon, he taught music writing between 1994 and 2004 at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Since then, he has been a regular lecturer. He has published a book on Gustav Mahler.

In 1987, he destroyed all his scores. After a year of reflection, he resumed writing with Sphène for orchestra.

Philippe Chamouard's catalog includes mainly orchestral pages: 10 symphonies, concertante works for trumpet, cello, violin, Celtic harp, koto, but also for string orchestra, voice, choir... His works are recorded by Universal Music and Indesens/Calliope.

Meetings with Barbara Hendrix, Olivier Messiaen, Maurice André, Ennio Morricone encourage him to pursue his artistic approach. His music, while employing a neo-tonal writing is very personal. His sound aesthetics is often linked to an ideology stemming from poetry or literature marked by humanism and spirituality.
