The clarinet plays across the whole compass of the instrument, in successive melodic phrases. At the beginning, the piece passes from breath to sound and then becomes more lively through the use of rapid passages and staccato. The writing for the piano consists of indeterminate tone clusters, which do not derive from precise composition: this is a continuous improvisation, searching for new acoustic sonorities. This work, which is of an advanced level of difficulty, can be used as a teaching piece, as a competition piece, or in a concert.
