Le temps des mauvaises manières (Time Of Bad Manners), for solo bass clarinet, is the first segment of a project of pieces for solo instruments named Resolutions. This project is pursued alongside a serie of instrumental books from the same author, called The Sound Of The Orchestra/ Renewal of instrumental techniques belonging to the collection Musique/Pédagogie by Delatour France.
The title of this piece comes from Master Oshima, founder of a karate school that bears his name. He describes this «time of bad manners» as the point where the advanced karateka, joyful after overcoming his own blockages, loses his concentration and by contagion therefore wastes the concentration of the less advanced ones. For Dominique Delahoche, this title illustrates the analogy he perceives between the search of the karateka, honesty and realism, and the one guiding his work as a composer.
