In the continuity of the studies conducted by the Association Femmes et Musique in order to make the French composers known, this essay presents the first of them to have approached the lyric theater: Louise Bertin. To face the prejudices that excluded women from the creative path Louise Bertin was able to rely on the friendship of Victor Hugo who wrote for her the booklet of La Esmeralda. Attention is drawn here to the specificity of this collaboration and the original career of this artist in the first half of the 19th century.
