This Mass for the world was written to deal with our world confronted with globalization, but still puzzled by the everlasting spiritual questions of evil and salvation. The Latin language and the catholic mass text provide us with a well-kown reference. Nevertheless, a few other vernacular languages represent the world diversity : Italian, German, Spanish, English and French, but also occasionally Swahili, Arabic and Hebrew. The prayer ends with the sacred Hindu syllable “Om”, calling us to inner meditation. (The work can also be sung fully in Latin.)
Written in a modal language, this Mass setting uses in particular Indian modes (Kyrie and Agnus Dei), recalling the phrygian mode. The musical construction is based on a simple material, circulating from one part to another (underlining musical and theological links within the text).
