In this book, Pierre-Noël Doyon presents his photographic universe and his thought by tracing his career from the early 1960s to 2012. This path, which was neither linear nor progressive, shows how much he had in stages, so closely woven together his art and his life that they could not be separated without almost destroying the being he was.

In the first part, Pierre-Noël Doyon presents his artistic practice in particular. The second part is an analysis of his work in the light of the testimonies of those who knew him. It appears that the long lasting friendship between Pierre-Noël Doyon and André Almuro, composer and filmmaker, played a decisive role.

All the photographs, testimonies and commented documents gathered in this book reveal the complex relationships that Pierre-Noël Doyon had with photography, music and the body.

Philippe Jubard, composer and director, knew Pierre-Noël Doyon in 1977 while he was André Almuro's assistant. He witnessed the evolution of his work and his approach, in his spirit and in his technique, until his death in 2013. The film that accompanies this book was elaborated, in 2011, with Pierre-Noël Doyon and realized as part of the activities of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University where Philippe Jubard works as a research associate.
