This piece for a transverse flute (using a piccolo) and piano is a musical fable written in 2011. Inspired by a true story from the north-east of India, Mautam represents the flowering of bamboos which only occurs every fifty years. This causes an excessive proliferation of rodents and a dreadful famine. The work is also a tribute to the composer Jean-Louis Florentz and is based on an extract from the poem of the young Sabine Sicaud : L’Allée des bambous (The bamboo avenue).
