Scott JOPLIN (1867 or 1868-1917) was an afro-american pianist whose compositions are played the world over. He wrote many celebrated Ragtimes of which « Entertainer's Rag », for the movie by George Roy HILL, « The Sting », with Paul NEWMAN and Robert REDFORD, in 1973 is probably the best known of them.
MAPLE LEAF RAG is also very well known, and after playing it on the piano, I had fun making a solo guitar version which I still play from time to time.
Some years ago I have written a suite for flute and guitar, « PORTS D’ATTACHE », made up of eleven pieces in the style of different countries. To illustrate the United States, I had the idea to make a Ragtime in Scott JOPLIN's style, as far as this genius had a major influence in North American music's hitory. Thus I propose here, as a tribute to Scott JOPLIN a solo guitar version (each piece in PORTS D ATTACHE has the name of a harbour in each country).
