Eclipse of sound for mandolin quartet (ossia guitar for the mandoloncelle) (2005). Order from ARIAM Ile de France
Eclipse de son is a short piece of 7 '(in three parts) composed in 2005 for two mandolins, a mandolus and a mandoloncelle. The object of the commission was to write a short work for amateur musicians.
The play begins with a sort of medieval hiccups in Bartók pizzas, streaked with chords, over which a chromatic-melodic formula unfolds, evolving to the point of dissolving into the grave register of the four instruments. The second and the third part gladly repeat the same principle, which each time is exposed in a very different way. In reality, it is a kind of great "variation" on a very simple compositional principle at the beginning.
Éclipse de son was premiered on the occasion of a show titled "Rooster to the Soul" (directed by Miguel Borras) given on June 11, 2005 at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris).
