Harp and Orchestra

DLT2807E

The harp takes a particular place in my works. I often used its spreading power and poly-instrumental ability in my chamber music pieces and orchestral works. To bring a fragile Harp in front of a wind Band was a real challenge, I couldn’t resist. The major difficulty here was to preserve a space for this rich instrument and to build a sparkling and atypical musical context.

The piece is written in the pure “Concerto” tradition, an incessant dialogue between the soloist and the Orchestra, with a short “cadence”, as a reaffirmation of a classical hint. François Cheng’s poem “UN JOUR, LES PIERRES” helped me all along this composition. Some elements at the beginning of the piece may suggest mineral clangs but it would be risky to reduce the piece to a mineral sounds suite.
