Volage is a work of light character... like the amorous seduction historically attached to this instrument. Like many of us, I have always been fascinated by the noisy and often (but not always) shrill flight of thousands of starlings gathering in flight to find a place to nest at night.
This veritable ballet, very "plastic", where the birds synchronise at the very moment when one of the lead birds changes direction, is deeply poetic. Volage is similar to this type of plastic, in this case sound, constantly in motion.
The choice of a work of timbre is rather unusual for this type of instrumental formation. The result is a very corporeal sensitivity: from caresses to sudden abruptness, passing through great moments of rest, almost a pause in time.
