E-SCORE PDF VERSION

As a lover of opera, especially Italian opera, I wanted to know from where its source came.  In my quest, I found a number of traditional Italian and Sicilian melodies and dances from Ali Baba’s Cave. The beauty struck me in their vocal lines (aspects of which are similar to those found in Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi and Puccini), each a perfect pebble, polished over time.  The idea came to me to dramatize them to the stage, musically speaking, so as to tell these stories with no words ; so, it’s the wind ensemble that I found to be the most compatible means for creating the operatic personality of each song, as each instrument possesses in itself an individual character which could be linked with the operatic scene of each piece.  I dedicate these compositions to the Gustatori Quintette, for whom I have such strong affection.

5 - Palumedda (chanson)

6 - Lu Viddanu (danse)

7 - Si maritau Rosa (chanson)

8 - Pizzicarella (danse)
