Along with his original works, the composer also left a large number of arrangements, paraphrases or reminiscences elaborated from operas or religious works and, above all, a host of transcriptions for piano or organ of lieder, symphonies, cantatas and other scores by composers recognised at the time, like Bach. Beethoven and even Chopin. Taking this example as a point of departure, certain organists have in turn endeavoured to transcribe piano pieces or symphonic poems by Liszt for their instrument, and the result has often been convincing. Such is the case with Jeanne Demessieux who, in keeping with habits that were in vogue during the Dupré years, first practiced the piano before achieving the heights at the organ.
