The nineteen miniatures (fourteen for keyboard only, five also with the pedal-board) contained in this collection were composed essentially for pedagogical reasons. Taken from previous large-scale works of the composer, they allow the student to become familiar with his musical language with the help of brief commentaries on the compositional procedures. Each of these very short pieces is based on a definite musical and technical idea. They are all easily approachable, most being suitable for the first years of study.
