Composing this piece in 1996, Yves Lafargue wanted to create his own organ choral à la française in symphonic style. In the 90's, he studied the organ with Aude Heurtematte (Paris, St-Gervais) ; as a stop assistant for Vincent Genvrin (Paris, St- Nicolas-des-Champs), he got precious experiences about the art of performing on large instruments ; he achieved his harmony and counterpoint studies in the CNSM de Paris. Choral may be considered as a witness of this period, through the definition of its style, widely influenced by Franck, Vierne, Dukas, and the care with which the composer treats the general structure as well as the smallest details. Yet it must not be mistaken for a pasticcio, but regarded as a truly original and sincere concert piece.
