The Six Etudes were written from 1996 to 1998 and edited in 2012.
They are dedicated to Pascale ROUET, Sylvain HEILI, Aude SCHUMACHER, Pierre PERDIGON and François MENISSIER. They constitute single contrasting microcosms which can be played as a group or separately.
The six pieces take their inspiration from French, German and Italian music of the 17th century, presenting a number of characteristics of the music of this period: relatively short duration of each piece, almost no changes in registration, moderate difficulty, essentially abstract character, rejection of complex harmonic structures in favour of ornamental melodic lines.
