In 2011, Pierre Pincemaille receives a not commun commission: for a show featuring music and poetry, he is asked to compose variations "in the musical style of..." on Le Temps des Cerises, a popular song written by Jean-Baptiste Clément in 1871.
Pierre Pincemaille willingly lends himself to this music writing exercise : at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, he teaches how to compose in the style of greatest composers. For what is here a study of style, he chose Mozart, Bach, Schumann and Beethoven.
His perfect mastery of their musical language, applied to a same musical theme, leads us to recognize the four composers without difficulty, through these small pastiches, such as he liked to improvise them at the piano...
"In my class at the Paris Conservatory, my students must be able to compose in the style of Bach or Mozart. In short, I teach them to become masters in forgery and use of forgery !
Pierre Pincemaille (1956-2018)
