Henry J. BERTINI was born in London in 1798 and died in 1876. His brother Auguste, a CLEMENTI student, gave him his first piano lessons. He soon became an appreciated virtuoso. On April 20, 1828 he participated with F. LISZT to the performance of BEETHOVEN's symphony in A major for which he had made the transcription for eight hands! That shows how important he was at the time.

Besides the great Berlioz himself, in one of his letters wrote that he was a great admirer of the genius of Bertini and his music "makes the heart beat vigorously". What a compliment! (BERTINI dedicated his last sextet to him).
