These Variations and fugue on a french children song are intended to enhance mutual listening in chamber music. The structure in form of variations allows the players to focus on various technical qualities (articulation, chromaticism, scales, speed, rhythms) and to improve expression. The piece also allows chilren to study styles (the negro spiritual, the contemporary language) and forms (the fugue). The piece is aimed at pupils of intermediate grade (especially as far as expressiveness is concerned), but certain sections are accessible to students from the very rst grades.
