ARCHET-TYPE was written in 2004 for a string quartet and is composed by five movements (Dance, Romance, Little Waltz, March and Folk Song).

The Dance in A minor is formed by four different parts: moderato, presto, moderato and presto. The “moderato” parts are based on a repetitive melodic theme whereas the “presto” parts are built on a changing rhythmic theme.

The Romance is a movement with many facets, which always change. The tones and the colours make us waver between serenity, sadness, frivolity and seriousness.

The Little Waltz in C major is a movement with a sparkling melody and a “swing” side, which are essentials for its frivolity and its naivety. However the middle part in A minor let it be thought that everything is not always so simple and a shadow always hovers...

The March in A minor is based on a repetitive rhythmic theme, which is firstly played by the alto and then by the other instruments. The melody comes from this ostinato and will be heard till the end of the movement.

The Folk Song in C minor is a movement written “in the way of ...”. It is a “Theme and Variations” on a original melody but it tries to imitate a “folk” theme. The pizzicati and the off-beats evokes a guitar accompaniment.
