Under this very "Century of Louis the Fourteenth" title, a very French relationship to the art of sounds is revealed: To paint feelings, as Forqueray, Froberger, Sainte-Colombe, Marais and many others did in their time, giving to French music this so particular and sensitive color, so much so that at the time of its rediscovery in the twentieth century, the viol will have seen its "spirit" and its technique as emblematic of the seventeenth century, whereas, like any other instrument, it should have evolved if it had not been preferred to the family of violins from the second half of the eighteenth century.

Unrequited desires are unfulfilled desires, broken impulses, unanswered calls, complaints, moments of tenderness... so many emotional characteristics constituting the form of the work made of departures and re-departures, like so many new paths that are lost.

The viols are used here in a rather traditional way, even if I did not deprive myself of some more current techniques. However, the spirit of the work is that of a 17th century revisited and revitalized by a sound and technical relationship to the instrument that is reminiscent of similar instruments in other cultures, such as the sarangi, a fiddle played in India, Pakistan and Nepal.
