The piece was composed in 2013 following a request from the SpiriTango Quartet, which is composed of a violin, a double base, an accordion and a piano. It was written specifically for the violinist of the group, Fanny Gallois, but I subsequently wrote a version for violin and piano. The term Cabeceo is used during Milongas, Argentinian tango evenings. It is an invitation to dance by an exchange of looks. Throughout the tango, the dancers must gaze into each other’s eyes; if they don’t, the dance is interrupted. I then created a progressive acceleration, suggesting increasing intensity and the desire of both dancers to continue this exchange until its final paroxysm. A percussion section (ad libitum) was added in 2018 for Vassilena Serafimova, with a view to recording the work for the Paraty label.
