The seven short Caprices for violin solo were written for music students who have studied the violin for 6 or 7 years and wish to explore contemporary works. Each of the seven pieces presents a survey of the techniques and modes of playing most frequently used in contemporary music. Their difficulty is progressive and yet they can be played quite easily by students of that level. In no way do they constitute a catalog of effects but aim at integrating those modes and techniques within a coherent freely atonal speech which however does not restrain the lyricism wanted by the composer. Each piece is short and can be played separately as part of a whole.
