BONIN Olivier

Olivier Bonin is a geographer and senior researcher at LVMT, a joint research unit of École des Ponts ParisTech and Gustave Eiffel University. Ingénieur en chef des Ponts, des Eaux et des Forêts, he holds a PhD in mathematics and a habilitation to direct research in geography. Favoring theoretical approaches and modeling, he works mainly on urban forms and urban morphogenesis, as well as on the links between urban forms, energy, land use and mobility behavior. He is particularly interested in understanding and modeling the relationships between people and space. His modeling approaches are based on various techniques from the sciences of complexity, such as dynamical systems, catastrophe theory, fractals and multifractal analysis, as well as econometrics. He also works regularly in a dialogue between the arts and sciences. In particular, he led the Champs urban model research project, aimed at reinventing ways of representing a territory, and the "Entreponts" project, mobilizing researchers, curator-archivists and artists around the historical models in the École des Ponts collection.
