VIVANT Elsa

Elsa Vivant is an urban planner and sociologist. She is a professor at Gustave Eiffel University. Her research focuses on the relationship between the worlds of art and urbanism as a prism for renewed questioning of how cities are produced. She is developing a critical analysis of the role of culture in urban dynamics and the recomposition of metropolitan territories. Her work on the instrumentalization of cultural projects in urban planning has shown how urban planning endogenizes the artistic criticism of which it is the object. She is also interested in the evolution of professional practices in the world of urban planning. The study of collaborations between artists and urban planners inspired a turning point in her research practices, as she integrated research-creation approaches and took part in artistic projects linked to her research themes as part of a residency at Ateliers Médicis as an artist-researcher. Her latest work, L'impasse. Scènes de l'urbanisme ordinaire was published in 2021 by Éditions Créaphis.
