Taken from the Gospel according to Luke (1, 39-45), the text of the Visitation tells the story of the meeting of Mary, pregnant with Jesus, and her cousin Elizabeth, herself pregnant with John the Baptist. Mary's greeting startles the child Elisabeth carries and fills her with the Holy Spirit.
Celebrated on May 31st in the Catholic calendar, the event gives rise in 2014 to a major event in the heart of the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the Abbey of Pontigny in the département of Yonne (France), moment in which this work fits in creation.
