Stéphane Gendron has been teaching piano in music schools for over twenty years, and was keen to share his diverse teaching experiences. Enseigner le piano aujourd'hui (Teaching piano today) offers a set of reflections on the profession of instrument teacher, and on the conditions under which face-to-face teaching with pupils takes place. His book comments on and analyzes the main changes encountered since the 1980s, notably in the motivations expressed, the approach to music and repertoire, the relationship to the written word and new technologies, cultural openness, and the relationship to work and leisure. It is a plea for an open approach to music teaching, expressing the need to encourage pleasure and creativity, and offering numerous perspectives on links with other art forms.
