Organ and orchestra

DLT2706e

After making a detailed study of the different sonic possibilities of the organ in which the work was created, Christophe de Coudenhove was himself inspired by these sounds for writing the orchestra : combinations of wind instruments for mimic some organ stops, tight dialogue, shared sounds, rapid exchanges between the two instruments to melt into space. This creates a fusion between the symphony orchestra and the organ where each entity in very loud colors can deploy powerful sound and the almost infinite variety of sounds. The orchestra becomes organ, the organ becomes orchestra.

To strengthen this exchange of roles, the orchestra adds a saxophone quartet and recorders, and two trombones and a trompet are placed next to the organ. Thus, an exchange game sounds are organized in the space between the organ and the orchestra. Sound is everywhere, plunging the listener into the heart of a huge wind instrument.
