In this piece Monnikendam has written a miniature full of expressive invention for this rarely-heard combination of instruments. The violin line is highly lyrical despite the chromaticism of the melody. The organ responds, particularly in the central section which is a series of variations on a second theme that is announced on the pedals alone. In contrast the virtuosity of the violin part increases as the piece progresses until a place of peace is reached. The work ends in the same mood as it began and concludes with a series of radiant chords..
