The poetry of Li Po is noteworthy for its evocative power as well as the intensity and depth of its sensitivity : wonder facing Nature, grief and resignation confronted to the mystery of Life, but also deep inner peace that contemplation can reach. The composer wished to render all these feelings in this work (sung in English). In each of its three parts, musical sensuousness is combined with a great, almost taoist, stylistic sobriety.
