In this piece I tried to conceive the piano as a real partner of the bassoon and not only as its accompanist. The characteristic of the piano being to play several notes at the same time, I wanted without neglecting this way, to consider that the ten fingers of the pianists were ten different instruments !
The bassoon uses only very few «modes de jeux» : multiphonic; trills of sonority; bisbigliando; harmonics; rolls. I use them sparingly because the «irremovable» aspect of the piano in terms of temperament would be a real constraint compared to the «random» aspects of the bassoon in these circumstances.
«Fleur de l’aube» takes its title from a vision of a lotus flower. The work is dedicated to Sophie Dervaux. She premiered it in 2014 in Bonn «Beethovenfest» (Germany) with Anna Kirichenko, Piano.
Duration : 7’30’’. The music has been revised in 2020.
