The Mass for several instruments instead of organs was composed in the spring of 1674 by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, in order to compensate for the absence of an organ that could not have been installed in time, on an exceptional ceremonial day in a Parisian convent. The composer imitates the playing of the pipe instrument so perfectly that it seems natural to offer today a transcription for organists wishing to interpret his music. This version includes not only the original verses by Charpentier, but also some additional pieces intended to complete the work, the end of which is unfortunately lost.
