This famous icon by Andrei Rublev dating from 1410 is called Icon of the Trinity or The Three Angels at Mambre (hosted by Abraham). It is now in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

This composition is directly inspired by this remarkable icon that shows Abraham's hospitality to the three angels. Since the early centuries of Christianity, the biblical story of this visit to Abraham and Sarah in Genesis has been interpreted as a manifestation of the Holy Trinity.

Contemplate the translucent coat of the angel on the left of the icon that offers to our eyes all the subtlety of the silver color, the symbol that is not really hidden of the "sacred vase", the hollow of the wings that is like the receptacle of each angel halos, the three "peace’s spears" are not like long flutes? I think of the special light of the winter sun which penetrates us, seeming illuminate each corner of our souls and goes through us horizontally.

When the Trio d’Argent commissioned me a new work, it is naturally that I turned to this beautiful icon: close to the three figures, the silver light that illuminates the picture gives us to contemplate this impression of transparency through which the beyond of the things seems to draw.
