This work, in E Flat Major, consists of a Brass Fanfare that introduces a main theme composed of two parts built on the idea of a processional march. The heart of the piece is a "Passacaille" written in a baroque style. This is followed by an "ostinato" in the tenor part which grows out of a progressive "crescendo". Before concluding in a choral, the two superimposed themes are developed in an orchestral "tutti". The Finale consists of tense chords which takes us to the key of E Major, brighter and more vivid, in a "vivace" and "grandioso" tutti.
