Written for the same instrumental set as "L’histoire du Soldat" (A Soldier’s tale), with an extra harp, Dominique Delahoche's Le Ciel des Carrières, created by the 2e2m ensemble for Anne Montaron’s famous radio show Alla Breve on France Musique, offers a walk down a strangely bright parisian underground. The "ciel des carrières" is an expression which describes the superior arch of galleries dug to extract stones with which Paris was built. The writing is based on a research on new tones and extended techniques offering the best playing conditions. Every instrument is being equally called upon to create this very surprising atmosphere.
